Why is Hanson Vineyards one of the best wineries to visit in Oregon’s Willamette Valley?

Hanson Vineyards is one of the best wineries to visit in the WIllamette Valley because visitors enjoy unique, expressive, award-winning wines in a casual setting, with service provided personally by winemaker Jason Hanson.

There are many reasons why Hanson Vineyards provides a great experience and is highly rated by guests who visit the winery:

  • Hanson Vineyards is easy to visit. People can drop in when the winery is open on weekends, no reservations required. Uncrowded rural roads ensure a relaxed trip to the winery.

  • Hanson Vineyards is easy to reach. Hanson Vineyards is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, an easy drive from cities such as Portland and Salem. It’s also a welcome destination for people visiting nearby Silverton and Silver Falls State Park.

  • The experience is personable and welcoming. Owner and winemaker Jason Hanson personally pours the wines that he makes, and he chats with the guests without using jargon. Leashed dogs are welcome, and visitors are encouraged to bring snacks or picnics to the outdoor tasting garden.

  • The experience is affordable, as are the wines. The tasting fee is $15 per person, but that fee is waived with the purchase of three bottles. Most wines cost between $18 and $30. Visitors are also welcome to purchase glasses or bottles of wine and enjoy a leisurely afternoon with friends and family.

Hanson Vineyards is well regarded for producing dry wines in a range of styles. Jason Hanson farms 13 different grape varieties and he not only bottles varietal wines made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gamay, Riesling, and Chardonnay, but also unique blends from grape varieties such as Golubok, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Leon Millot, and Maréchal Foch. New plantings of Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt will start producing grapes in 2026.

Hanson Vineyards also produces

  • skin-fermented “orange wine” from Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer

  • skin-fermented “Ramato” from Pinot Gris

  • designated Pinot Noir from the “Creek Rocks” block

  • a chillable red blend called “Three Sisters”

  • a richer-styled white wine called “Blanc de Noir,” which is made from direct-press Pinot Noir.

In sum, it’s thanks to all these diverse elements – the personal touch, the uncrowded environs, the unique and delicious wines, all accessible at modest prices – that make Hanson Vineyards one of the best wineries to visit in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
